Profile

Name: Celia Lie.

Date of Birth: 19 September 1982.

Location: Dunedin, New Zealand.

Occupation (aka: How I fund my bike habit): Teaching Fellow (Psychology).

Current Bikes in my Stable: Santa Cruz Blur XC (XC race bike), Santa Cruz Nomad (trail/play MTB), Cannondale Synapse road bike, Haro Pro race BMX, Giant Suede city commuter bike

Favourite Trails: Makara Peak MTB Park (Wellington), Whakarewarewa Forest (Rotorua).

First Mountainbike: A 2001 Giant ATX890 hardtail.

First Mountainbike Ride: In Naseby in the middle of winter 2003. Very cold (there was ice on the ground) and very scary from a beginner’s point of view!

First Mountainbike Race: University Games 2004 in Dunedin. I came 7th out of 8 in the XC (and the 8th person DNFed!), and 4th out of 8 in the DH.

First Road Race: In 2007 over in the Wairarapa for a women’s road race series. I surprised myself with a 3rd place in the Intermediate grade!

Best Race: Karapoti 2008 in terms of the amount of training put in and the achievement of my goals on the day. The most enjoyable race would have been the 2008 Makara Peak Rally – most of the trails in the Park in just over 2 hours. Talk about fun!

Worst Race: Round 4 of the 2008 PNP MTB Series (Belmont). Mud mud mud galore. Plus too much pushing uphill. Urgh.

More about Bikes and Me:

I wouldn’t consider myself a “serious” racer – instead, I’m a competitive person by nature who sometimes trains for events, trying to do the best I can. You won’t see me on top of an elite podium anytime soon (hey, I’m realistic about that), but that’s fine by me. I’m happy riding, racing, and enjoying the competitive and social aspects of mountainbiking.

More coming soon..
